What do you do when you’re not playing with ROCO? I am a freelance musician, meaning that I play in a string quartet, with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra or other local orchestras, in a new music ensemble, for touring musicals or pop shows, for events, recitals, and many other things. I even play the fiddle (and this year guitar too!) in the Grandstand show for the Calgary Stampede.
What are you listening to on your iPod? Mostly music that I am learning for concerts or auditions.
What did you do this summer? Spent time waterskiing and golfing in Whitefish Montana.
Personal info: Married for 6 years, no kids yet...
Question you're asked most often: Have you always loved playing the violin? Answer: No,...but yes! Well, you see there have been many times when I have questioned it. When I was a kid it got in the way of my socializing, in school I got frustrated when I couldn't master a skill, and as an adult it is a challenge to find stability through music as a profession. The interesting thing is that I always come back to it, maybe because it is kind of an addicting challenge that I guess I really like! Then of course there are wonderful highlights like ROCO that keep me loving it.
Interests outside music: Hiking, running, skiing, yoga, shopping, home improvement.
